10월 30일 when the Pune Youth came alive !!!Held at Gulati Hall, St Vincent’s High School, Pune, the Western Regional Zonal of the Teen of the Year began gaining momentum soon after the brief introduction given by the Editor of The Teenager, at 9. 30 AM. Preceding the final to be held in Mumbai, it was the seventh and the last Zonal following the Zonals at Agra, Kolkatta, Chennai, Goa, Mumbai and Bangalore. The twenty two participants, representing different schools of Pune were chosen on the basis of their entry form, resume and certificates of merit. They all became more alive and broke through their seclusion during the ice breaker session conducted by Jaison and Neelabry, two of the previous participants. An array of laughter and the hullabaloo filled the atmosphere with joy and celebration. Activities like group dynamics and creative presentation with Maggie Fernades, Cathy Joy and Aji John aiming at determining the participants’ attitude towards life and leadership traits and creativity, followed next. This was also a forum for the participants to share and discover themselves by interacting with others, to help others discover themselves, to cooperate with others and yet be their unique selves. However, watching from outside one would never say that it was a competition that was going on because The Teen of the Year contest, unlike any other contests is not a plat form to judge and evaluate the intellectual IQ or skin beauty, or to crown a Miss this or Mr. that. On the other hand, the endeavor of this Pageant is to provide the seed for the youngsters to come forward and blossom, to share and create bonds that last for a life time.
A panel of judges – Miss Rachel Rato, Mr Anthony and Sr. Liza – conducted personal interviews of each of the twenty two participants. The visibly tensed, sweating, sighing-every-now-and-then participants waiting to be called in for the interview became composure and confident personified once in front of the Judges, thanks to their constructive and friendly approach.
By 5.30 in the evening, the ever smiling Maggie Fernades, the compere of the main event of the day appeared on the stage. She elucidated the aims, goals and purpose of the Teen of the Year to a packed audience that included media personnel, teachers, principals, and parents. The symbolic lighting of the lamp heralded an eventful evening ahead. A prayer dance invoking the blessing of the Almighty and the welcome speech by Dominic D’Silva set the stage for the show.
There you were once again. Those nail-biting moments, those enchanting tunes, those classy steps, that nervous waiting, eloquent speeches, melodious voice creating the perfect mood and adding flavor to the grant show. Amidst the thunderous applauds emerged, the first participant of the evening, Flaveen D’sousa. When was last time you saw a young boy like Flaveen dance so fantastically? Soon after that amazing performance followed, the electrifying speech by Stuti. The young, eloquent girl while condemning terrorism active in India, had quite a few points make to curb the menace of terrorism. A bandaged, scrawling Krishna demonstrated the woes and worries of the leper patients in our country.
If one were to ask me, whose performance I had liked most I would have been in a dilemma. Whether it was the emotional speech delivered by Romana Jim in her poetical passion or the blazing dance by Tanvi Pramod or the speech by Mrunal Rithe, who kept the aueience speel-bouund or Tanvi Pradip who emphasized the relevance of the teachings of Gnadhi in today’s world or Suhani’s innovative fusion of Kathak and Western dance, it would be quite a task to answer. One bettered the other or each one stood poles apart in one’s own sphere of uniqueness. Sitting down there watching in utter amazement, the young brilliant participants giving expression to their unique talents, I was reminded of what Miss Pooja Batt –last year’s chief guest in Mumabi for the finals – told the participants, “ You cannot be like me, you are all much better than me”. Who is the best or who is first, is a question that everyone looks forward to at the end every contest or pageant. The winner with the head held high and the loser with a drooping shoulder disappearing into the crowd during the course of time is a common practice. But at Teen of the Year, being winner or loser, first or last does not make much difference. Here one does not try to outsmart aybody or tostand on the top and jeer at those defeted, but this unique event becomes the centre-stage for youngsters who are achievers by virtue of what they are, and what others are not. It is a dream to cherish always, a movement that is creating a silent revolution in the minds of so many young people and capturing the imagination of the whole country. Though, each of the participants gave spectacular performance, “three finalists were chosen to represent the hopes, aspirations and the sentiments of the youth of Pune” told the Editor. Thus shweta Hariharan, Suhani Suresh and Mukta Vijay will be held the flag of Pune in the final event in Mumbai to be held from the 9th of November 2006. Cheer up and all the very best to you, young girls. 10월 29일 hmmmSlight head ache, haaang over, sleepy & sloppy, hmm haaa, and that’s all wat you feel if you have sleep only for 4-5 hrs a day read books for 1 hr, watch TV for 30 minutes for one week, at least what Deepu felt. Anyway, now it’s a better feeling coz it was all worth it. and the result can be seen up there.. 10월 26일 Teen of the Year 2006
The Teenager, India’s first-ever magazine for teens, and the oldest surviving youth magazine (44 years) in India, is once again all set to hold its prestigious annual event — the Teen of the Year 2006 — a contest that seeks to espouse the very ideals and objectives which has seen the The Teenager grow from its humble beginning in 1963 at Allahabad (U.P.) to a circulation strength of over 16,000 countrywide today! Is there someone out there who can qualify as a role model for teenagers, today, a young citizen of our great country who can share the task of nation-building which was embarked upon so enthusiastically five decades ago, and which, sadly, has so hopelessly lost its way today. The Teenager is once again on the hunt for this elusive soul! What is sought in a participant in the Contest is not an endless litany of accomplishments, but intrinsic strength of character, qualities of leadership, vision and humaneness; in short, all those values which we pay lip-service to today, but see so rarely! The Teen of the Year 2006 seeks to bring on centre-stage youngsters who are already achievers — achievers by virtue of what they are! The Teen of the Year pageant (established in December 1996 at Mumbai) is the fruit of 44 years of our labour of activating the youth and motivating them to greater heights of excellence. Our focus is on the overall personality rather than on the usual assemblage of delectable body parts. The grand finale this year, prior to which seven zonals would be held at Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Mumbai, Panjim and Pune, will be held at Bandra, Mumbai on November 9,10, 11, &12 2006. Many prominent academicians, social activists and other prominent citizens have hailed this annual youth event for its intrinsic worth which is more than skin deep. The Western region Zonal contest is scheduled to be held on the 28 October (incidentally it falls on deepu’s birth day, but he being one who doesn’t celebrate B day, it will be yet another day in his life, except for the fact that it is on this day that Zonal is held.) in Pune, from where 3 participants will be chosen for the final event. Participants are chosen on the basis of their entry form, resume, certificates of merit and an essay on a given topic, followed by activities aimed at determining their attitude to life and leadership traits, like group dynamics. They are also assessed on their general knowledge, interaction with other participants, and a personal interview by a panel of judges. In the final round, each participant displays a talent on stage that best expresses himself/herself. The final five participants are each asked a question, and the three who best exemplify the ideal of the Teen of the Year are declared 2nd runner-up, 1st runner-up and Teen of the Year! Hmm deepu has been working day in day out. Just 6 hrs of sleep, some 7 hrs in front of the computer..it is been hectic..and he needs rest, and he needs it very badly.. Just waiting for the zonal meet to be over on 28th. So until then byeeee On behalf of the organizers and on my personal behalf, all of you are invited to witness this talent show….. 10월 25일 so lovely Couple...One day ..oops!%^% he must have been crazy to relentlessly stare at them. Know what? The couple was engaged in a passionate smooooch!! This time around Deepu lost his sense of composure and ethical values. He stood there motionless watching the whole drama unfolding. This Romeo and Juliet would have placed Shakespeare in a crunch situation. Pecking each other they went on and on as if that was the only thing to do in the world, obviously, unaware of those stealthy eyes watching them from the close cordon. All of a sudden he regained his composure and decided to let them have some privcy….tak…that sound was enough for them to notice the unashamed *%*^%. The next instant, the guy made his way out, the other blushing winked at deepu and sheepishly danced her way into the newly built home. Home sweet home! Kurr kurr kee kee coming from the nest they have decorated on his window heralds the good news of the birth day of deepu’s new companions. They have been there for quite some days now. It was almost a month back when they first began to inspect his territory. And they looked quite contented and comfortable with the guy quietly, meditatively sitting down there amidst books strewn all over the table. Now they are mom and dad. What was imminent has happened! Deepu wonders how many chiks are in there, his curiosity button prompts him to have a peep inside. But peeping Tom business would be impolite. Right? Well, let them come out, lets see how they look like, like mom or like dad…or??!!! One can be damn sure, they never – not even for an instance—thought of abortion or abandoning or the pain and lack of freedom involved in raring the small ones. No worry over girl children. No foetus scanning. Nothing! Just content loving another. They were greatly glad and whole heartedly accepted what was given to them. It sure was sth that happened with their knowledge. They were aware of the result. Else they wouldn’t with so much care make this nest!! You and I, human beings call them animals, irrational being!! How about us? Who are really irrational and brutal and animalistic? 10월 23일 Moive Moive Moive !!!Deepu happened to watch a couple of movies recently. One is Krish, supposed to be the first of its kind and other Lage Raho…
Having tolerated thru the hopping, flying of the Indian Ubermensch (superman) in Krish deepu realized he had spent three hrs of his life on sth unproductive. Turning the sides, he was on a high, felt satisfies and elated after having been to Gandhigiri. …he laughed, cryed, sighed, admired, winked, Ohhed, haaed and hmmed!! A daughters love for her dad, dreams and aspirations of some elderly men who are young at heart, love between a man and woman blossoming, a dad’s desire to see his daughter married, unbroken friendship between two friends, potential of good moooorning Mumbai- media, hallucination, and of course the hard and bitter ways of ahimsa. These and lot more was LRMB for deepu, with not much exaggeration a movie.
The exodus from the schizophrenic, split personality donned by Vikram in Anyyan (tamil) or Aparichithudu (Telgu) to the bollywood Krish looked ridiculously ignorable and unceasingly imbecile....this is one of the reasons why deepu avoides watching movies.
However, certain movies are so full of life. They mirror the creativity and novality of Indian movies. Some of deepu’s all time favs have been, Kuruthy punel, Roja, Kathalan (Tamil) Boys, Nu osthavande ne odhadande (Telgu), Kalapaani, Vanthanam, Guru (Malayalam) and hum dil de chuke sanam, raaz, legend of Bagath Singh and of course Lage raho…
Deepu is not a movie buff bye the way, but is very choosy about and cautious to spend those 3 hrs….watching films is one of the best ways to while away time, dont you think? 10월 20일 Gripping nostalgiaDhak dhak dhak poor deepu’s heart! That was beating as if for the last time.. dhak..dhak..no wonder that was his first oral exam..somehow got thru….now yaaahoooo…total araam! Time for some nostalgia. Just 2-3 hrs and the now-crimson sun will have said adieu and gone behind the trees and buildings ushering another swarthy painted bewitching dusk. A faint touch of fog enveloping the picturesque city, the aroma of eggs and ground nuts being roasted cover the atmosphere, mouth watering chrrr chrrr sounds of samosa being fried tempts one, as the last few streaks of sun rays retreat into darkness the city comes alive!! It is not the techno city Bangalore nor the ecno city Mumbai, nor is Chennai, Pune, Vijayawada, Ernakulam. It is Allahabad a small city or galli in U P. none of those other cities could impress, inspire, emotionally move deepu as much as this rustic, antique, always-the-same city of Allahabad could in just three years!! That was where deepu celebrated his first dewali in the year 2000, amidst diyas, crackers, people hither and thither, the joy reflected on the face of the people….as the light gives way for the darkness to blanket the seen, the lipsmacknig aromas, glittering fire works, spirit filed light arrangements..hmmmm Allahabad would look gloriously decked. Allahabad, abode of God, is the city of spiritual fulfillment with the sacred confluence- sangam- of the rivers Ganga, Yamuna and the mysterious, mythical river Saraswati. Deepu was greatly fortunate to have been there during the Maha Kumbh Mela, considered to be the largest religious gathering in the world, that occurs once in 12 years! Anand Bhavan built by Motilal Nehru in the home of Nehru family. The Akbar’s Fort near Sangam, Prayag…and more… The dilapidated, protruding, houses and shops, the narrow, buffalos and bachaas filled, cycle rickshaws and thongs crammed streets…they all come alive during dewali. As if tiny grass and plants after the long hot, typical UP summer, they all become brightly colored to celebrate dewali…..those were the golden years, the three years spent in Allahabad !! Another dewali in another city, will this match the celebration of that Holy city??!!! Wish you all a bright and joyful dewali. 10월 18일 i m kindaa back..Bole to, deepu has one more xam to go, but that now looks ages awayyyy hmmm. Cant wait till Sat?? ha? but a break morrow gives some time… he missed all the actions for al most two weeks Exams rrrr education sans xams would be a good idea, na? even xams without evaluations wouldn’t be a bad idea either, what you say?? what a lot of things happened in two weeks time… deepu thinks he has finally got her name..Mandy..hmmm that’s it….however down he may feel, her hahahaha laughter in a typical rani mukarjee voice enlivens his sprit and brings a smile on his lips and later a laughter. Stupendous girl-or woman. Hope you didn’t get it wrong, eh? Mandy is a radio jockey with radio Mirchi, quite enterprising and entertaining girl, deepu just loves her shows… aaaand deepu’s rabbits—he didn’t tell about them ya?—have all become either mother or father..everything went on well. The small ones, now so many of them are all doing great…you know, it s so fun to watch them hopping around here, their tiny, legs, eyes, ears, the way they look at deepu wen he comes to chase them bak to their cage..so cuuuuteeee.. then, Brangelina fever is catching on faster than dengue or chikengunia here. But deepu is (in)different as far as such stuff is concerned, though, he admires Angelina jolie for the altruistic and philanthropic attitude of hers. Hmmmmm..the best, most exiting and hoohoohaa came on the day when he looked at the 10th page of Oct.15th issue of the Week. …he was on cloud 9. Even when the Hindu did better things, he only reached cloud, say, 5 or 6. .. Now back to xam…I have to go back to 588 BC.. Zoroastrianism and the rest….seeee yaa, but wil be back sooooon….
10월 10일 deepu it s xam timehey deepu wat r u upto? you are still here lost in the wonder of creation and admiring the beauty of nature??!!
hmmmm professors are not poets, they will ooze the life out of everything that you write.
So it is better that deepu takes some time off. Right? so until next Sat, long chutti... well until then byeeeee and thank you so very much for xtending ur support.....i hope my professors wont let you down...
so here there is sth for you.
from morrow, wen you wake up, sitting up in ur bed send out a loud and long yawn, stretch yourself to all the corners. then take a deep breath, take in one more deep one. remain thus for two minutes. if your heart still beats and are conscience that you are holding breath, and let go. close your eyes and ask yourself 'am i stil feeling sleepy?' well you still feel, then go thru the proceedure once again, but this time you got keep your breath for three minutes...lets see wat happens.... well, the need to meet the priorities in life, keeps us always on our toes...now deepu is galopping on his toes... 10월 8일 i was awe-struck..When was the last time you forgot about yourself mesmerized
and stood awe-struck in full admiration and bewilderment gazing at the mysterious,
magnificent and gripping blend of hues that’s splashed across wen the sun having done with the day returns to the lap his lady love, ocean, painting the whole the sky with the sketch
that would dissolve anyone to utter amazement.
True beauty is soothingly mysterious though wrapped and unfathomable it remains bare and xposed. Wen there is so much music, dance and celebration in the nature around you y do u swet it out in the stuffy, stifling discos and pubs ….????!!!!!! Wen r u going to njoy the real banquet??
Life isn’t that long a journey as u might think it is!!!! Shed all the artificiality of life, drop everything that makes u exasperated. Begin to breathe in the real beauty of ever fresh day………..
hmmmm my days are getting hectic ....xams are around the corner....most probably i will gaze at the question paper and let my imagination get wings..... 10월 6일 silence is calling...Ran, ran and he ran,
Until he reached the safe shore of din And noise and thought he was comfortable. By chance did he fall in the bottomless chasm Of silence, where he felt all alone and terrified. Frightened at the beauty of silence he yelled. Knowing not she has the most beautiful Speech in the whole world that resounds In the for corners of the world. He was panting when she came close to him For silence, seldom did he know, is the salve For a tired soul and a wired mind. When she spoke, he felt chocked He knew not silence speaks louder. He was full of human voice. He ran and ran only for that noise. 10월 5일 it was yummy yummy..!!A cool breeze that filtered through the window right beside my bed woke me up. A glance at my watch and I realized I had been asleep only 20 minutes. hmmmm. That’s the last thing I wish happen while I take my after noon siesta. Half an hr of nap is sth that I cherish more than the slumber at night….
I was at my study table in a few minutes. but by that time, the entire mood of nature had transferred from a state of sober and slumber into a sudden burst of bustle. There was a sudden gush of cool air streaming all over and gradually it began to pull together its brute force and spring like a wild horse. It looks so marvelous. Chattering all over..prprprrpprrrr… Hey my dairy milk!!! ..it was not only deepu who was being tempted, but I could see some ants – I wonder how on earth they could get on to my table- taking rounds…terribl sense of smell..!!
Eough of resistance. I gave myself the green signal to indulge in..eeeks..well, I could see those tiny tots their mouth watering staring at me angrily for snatching away their ‘hard earned prey’ …obviously, I had to share with them too……. you know how does it feels to get recoverd from a virus attak? yeeees ask our computer, it will tell you...it s just refreshed itself from a grave attak....poor thing....
freiends always have your anti-virus updated from time to time..or else you know it.. 10월 4일 temtation....The other day when I went to buy some stationery, there was this chap in colorful attire winking at me. I didn’t mind in the beginning, but after a while, I saw myself paying for it too. How can one resist so cute and appealing a thing??!! I think you all get enticed by dairy milk kept in glassed shelves…ha? However I haven’t had it yet. It s waiting for it s turn on my study table. It feels good to have it there than eat it. don’t you think so? I feel more joy in that expectant waiting knowing, beliving all the while that it is going to be all yummy-yummy….after all if you have done it once, it is as good as doing it a dozen times. There is no more xitment in it. the same old routine. But that resistance at the face of temptation is really an uplifting experience. Well, I have fallen quite a few times to dairy milks, but this time around let me see how long I can resist. Of course, temptation is the only thing that I cant resist. ….but the colorful, tempting aroma, that look…hmmm
If you have nt had one in the recent past, well try one out…. this is just yet another way to feel like a child. …. 10월 2일 life has taught me....life has taught me....
That life is like a rose flower, as long as it is fresh it's adorned or else trampled upon. life has taught me....
that our life is like a kite in the wind. the more the force of windy problems the higher we sore. life has taught me....
That what we see is not what it really is. life has taught me....
that it is not the depth of the knowledge that keeps us going , but day-to-day life experiences. life has taught me....
that appreciation and encouragement works wonders in the lives of others. life has taught me.....
that life is not always a joy ride but, we can make it one when it is not. life has taught me.....
that quality time spent with & for our friends is that keeps the friendship blooming & flowering. life has taught me....
that when life gets us down it's loving friends like you who brighten our lives. life has taught me....
That all the painful experiences we go thru in our lives make us know that we are growing. For growth involves pain. life has taught me....
it's not who or what they are but they ARE that matters. life has taught me뀉.
that nothing happens accidentally & out of time. life has taught me....
That anger and resentment will only burden our heart, life has taught me....
missing an opportunity to say 'I LOVE YOU' to those we love and care for will never return. life has taught me....
that making others laugh is more delightful than making them weep. life has taught me....
That listening silently with our heart is more healing, than the eloquent speeches. life has taught me....
that it is easier to find the faults of others and overlook my own. life has taught me....
that it is not what we have achieved that gives satisfaction, but HOW life has taught me....
that it is not when we are close to the other, but when far away that we learn the worth & value of the other . It's loving & caring people like you who make this world
a beautiful place to live in. A BIG THANK YOU in the language of the heart, for being there. I thank you Creator Lord for these friends of mine. |
