What if that man met you?

There was a man, who was so filled with despondency that he decided to commit suicide. He started his long walk across the city towards the bridge, which was to be his jumping-off place. However, he promised himself that if he met one smiling, happy, friendly-looking person on the way, he would turn back from his harsh errand.

Oddly, the story ends without answering the question as to whether or not he could save his life. The tale however poses a question; one of those haunting personal questions; which pop into the mind now and then. If that man had met you, would he have turned back and taken up his life with a measure of courage? Well, would he? The smile, that is really genuine, is something that springs from within. It will not only enhance our appearance but will enrich our lives and also the lives of those with whom we come into contact.

You will never know whose life will be ignited with your smile! Or else, well........you might be creating a crack in the world out side.

Our problems with anger and our problems in relationships go hand in hand. Some of us have held back our anger, which led to resentment of our loved ones. Some of us have indulged our anger and become abusive. Some of us have been so frightened of anger that we closed off the dialogue in our relationships when angry feelings came out.

Sometimes we get angry, but hold it inside because we think it's wrong to feel it. If anger builds inside us, it expands like a balloon ready to burst. If not released, it can make us depressed, or even physically ill. When we give ourselves permission to feel anger, we are better able to get rid of it in a healthy way.

Indira Ghandi said, "You cannot shake hands with a clenched fist."

When we let go of our anger we can honestly embrace each other with open arms. Anger is a condition in which the tongue works faster than the mind.

Brenda was almost halfway to the top of the tremendous granite cliff. She was standing on a ledge where she was taking a breather during this, her first rock climb. As she rested there, the safety rope snapped against her eye and knocked out her contact lens .

'Great', she thought. 'Here I am on a rock ledge, hundreds of feet from the bottom and hundreds of feet to the top of this cliff, and now my sight is blurry.'
She looked and looked, hoping that somehow it had landed on the ledge. But it just wasn't there.

She felt the panic rising in her, so she began praying. She prayed for calm, and she prayed that she may find her contact lens.

When she got to the top, a friend examined her eye and her clothing for the lens, but it was not to be found. Although she was calm now that she was at the top, she was saddened because she could not clearly see across the range of mountains. She thought of the bible verse 'The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth.'

She thought, 'Lord, You can see all these mountains. You know every stone and leaf, and You know exactly where my contact lens is. Please help me.'

Later, when they had hiked down the trail to the bottom of the cliff they met another party of climbers just starting up the face of the cliff. One of them shouted out, 'Hey, you guys! Anybody lose a contact lens?'

Well, that would be startling enough, but you know why the climber saw it? An ant was moving slowly across a twig on the face of the rock, carrying it!

The story doesn't end there. Brenda's father is a cartoonist. When she told him the incredible story of the ant, the prayer, and the contact lens, he drew a cartoon of an ant lugging that contact lens with the caption, 'Lord, I don't know why You want me to carry this thing. I can't eat it, and it's awfully heavy. But if this is what You want me to do, I'll carry it for You.'

I think it would do all of us some good to say, 'God, I don't know why You want me to carry this load. I can see no good in it and it's awfully heavy. But, if You want me to carry it, I will.'

God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.

days are beautiful wen u smile. Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. So love the people who treat you right, and forget the ones who don't and believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance; take it. If it changes your life; let it. Nobody said it would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it life doesn’t flow the way we wish, but we need to adjust the way life takes us, though no one drags you back from trying something innovative to alter the situation! We don’t always get what we desire, but we can like what we get. Life is so short and diverse that we don’t always see the end of all that we venture into. Yet there is always the hope of something good happening at the end of the day.

that’s one thing deepu has learnt in his new place having begun the slow process of inescapable changes. Though not sure as of now, how, when, where…but truly there is something happening!

Don’t you think the situations condition you to an extend that you become the child of the situation you live. That condition moulds you until you see yourself placed in a new situation with entirely new picture of life; new color, new vista, new flavor. And you live life all over again!!

When the sun hides behind the clouds and you see it not peeping out not even once in 3 days, and the wind blows undaunted and rain is incessant, you don’t need an expert from meteorology to tell you the weather is bad.

You hear not the chirping of the birds, but the crooning of frogs

You hear not the chirping of the hullabaloo of daily wagers, but the vacant and water lodged fields, with market places deserted, crops shattered, vegetables rotten, power lines cut, internet down and not being able to step out of the house and with your heard labor proved futile with no trace of mercy by the drops from heaven you feel lost and life thrown out of gear.

You would feel completely exasperated, desperate and would say, ‘damn when the hell is rain going to stop,’ if you are in mumbai or delhi or in some metros…don’t forget that you are in the safety and security of some cozy flats with all the necessary furniture at ur disposal. Yet you don’t know what to do. You are at the receiving end of the fury of nature….panic buttons will be jammed…

Now, imagine the life of these simple people in some remote village here. One wonders if they have a one-room or two-room hut. The roof over the family consisting of 7- 8 members is not even supported by iron bars. The leaves and hay provide them the ‘comfort’ that people from city know not….yet they are as comfortable as they can be when there is no rain…no complains, no grumbling…

They still listen to the frogs croon and the crickets cry, if not for some birds…..

They are not rattled by the fury of nature – is it fury of nature?

For you and me it can be…..

That’s the difference….

Once a hunter reared a dozen eaglets. As the chicks grew up, feathers covered the little ones and began hopping around, he cut the wings of a few of them so that they wouldn’t fly high, but would peck around clearing the ground. He caged some others that he could see them always. However, he let free a couple of them to sore high in the sky to realize their potential as he thought they were capable of that – not the others though.

Years passed by, the hunter grew old and he wanted to set free all his by-now-grown up eagles. To his dismay, the ones whose wings he had clipped regularly continued to hop around even when their wings had grown fully. Those in the cage never attempted to fly though they were free to. Hence, he branded them useless and never bothered to care for them thereafter.

Most of the time, the hidden potential in an individual dies with the person as s/he is never in the group of that privileged lot who the hunter thought could fly high. Call it pre-arranged anatomy of the universe or simply the law of nature or due to imprudence and egocentricity, branded and with a tarnished self-image we move around carrying the burden of

The dream never dreamt,

The ambition never realized,

The goal never reached,

The song never sung.

We live in a society that upholds and highlights the achievements and personality of a select few however negligent may be the contribution they make. The majority is left out in the dark to stagger and falter even if there are gems among them. Why? They are not all supposed to fly high. Does the hunted has the freedom to hunt the hunter? The line between destiny and reality is mythical, mysterious and fragile. The day we shatter the bulwarks of this vicious line we would make progress by leaps and bounds.

Experience the best teacher! Who is experience’s teacher? Who knows!
Lessons learnt are no more lesions, are they? Whats more worth noting, value of lesions or their relevance? What if the experience only fetches me the narcist nerve to inflict harm and see the downfall of other? One of the greatest lessons in life is to learn not to do what one likes but to like what one has to do.
Not every goal will be fully achieved.
Not every job will end successfully.
Not every relationship will endure.
Not every hope will come to pass.
Not every love will last.
Not every endeavor will be completed.
Not every dream will be realized.
But when you fall short of your aim, perhaps you can say, "Yes, but look at what I found along the way! Look at the wonderful things which have come into my life because I tried to do something!"

Not everything u want would see the light of the day, does that leave you desp and screwed up? Well, if you decide so.

Change comes to us at all stages of our lives. Sometimes we welcome it, but most of the time we put on an unwelcoming note. No river ever flowed that didn’t at times burst its banks and take a new course. nor did you step into any river twice!

Look at the reeds…they know the art of swinging and enjoying life. There is no point in being stiff and being broken! do they have some experience??

Refusal to look outside the structured strata without being judgmental, contemptuous and presumptuous seems to be as hard as being asked to change oneself once and fore all for most of us, humans. The insatiable urge to follow the archetypical behaviour existing in the society, however grotesque or irrelevant doesn’t seem to hinder most from being repetitive and blindly imitating what’s laid down. The hippie movement hit the streets of the US in the 60s. In the 1960s the event that most dramatically divided consciences was the Vietnam War, which witnessed the killing of millions of youth in Vietnam and several thousands more in the US. Many middle-class students not only took to the streets to demonstrate against the war, but also began to question and even reject the moral principles on which they had been brought up.

In the universities, students rejected curricula that had served for decades and instead they demanded "relevant" courses in black or women's studies and participation in the decision-making process of the universities. the ripples gradually gathered rhythm and spread in the US and then across the West. It originated in the San Francisco Bay area in 1964. The hippies’ ideological principles were grounded on non-conformism, homelessness, oriental mysticism - especially the Zen version of Buddhism, an expansion of individual conscience by means of unrestricted alcohol and drug taking- especially LSD and hashish- colourful pacifism through the so-called flower power setting all disputes.

Though the movement got disintegrated and degenerated it did prove a point or two and clearly left behind a mark that was to be reminder for many.

Before the rain falls......

It s soon going to be 2 years since he landed up in Pune, and soon it will be time to bid good bye to this beautiful city that has taught him much…

Not without any expectations and aspirations, hopes and desires, plans and programs that did he come here…some remain fullfilled, some never...though never made any tough rules or vowed to harshly stick to anything, there were ups and downs as can be expected. The moments of apprehension and anxiety did match other stream of emotions that always are his trademark.

Sitting on that wooden chair with his heartbeat taking leaps every now and then – most likely same as those other 100 sth guys most of whom would become his freinds soon – it was no time to feel good. However, having triumphed over the entrance test, what followed was some good tidings.

Before the rains fell, the first ones in pune, he surely had his tasks cut out and knew the wheres, hows, and whats to expect and awaiting him in this relatively new place.

From the initial days of struggle to the rhythmic following up of time tables and scrupulousness in dislodging scrupulousness was part of the big game. Different colourful activites in the college, the seminars that often tested his patience level, the cultural festivals, the vociferous matches, not to forget for a moment the exams that would with all the delicacy sans mecry wipe out that smile of his.

The days of bunking and sleeping sitting in the first row (from behind though), dreaming and staring out as it pored down, the number of books he ran through as the lecturer was busy firing away existential realities and quandum physiscs and advita and hermenutics and what not…

Pune delicacy –vada paav— did certainly make his mouth water and sneak out at night and wil remember this city for this stuffy thing. His stint at kictchen -- proud to have learnt some kind of cooking and the driving liscnence he pocketed, a few articles and letters in magazines and as a finishing touch the book…somewhere along the lone came the joy of being part of the blogging world that sure added a new chapter in his life…along with it he came across a few wonderful people and is lucky to have friends in Isa, Mari, Lakshmi,Aagnishikha…and some others….

ohh rabbits...wil miss them too...they have been so wonderful teachers...sighhh

Been through monsoon and winter twice and would like to be back home before the rain falls next… it s been a memorable journey, with some really beautiful moments to relish and of course tinted with some bitter and forgettable incidents which will soon evaporate out as he leaves the place.

The days of farewell parties are over….the final classes with no less spirit and expectations drew the curtains down…wishing each other all best and a joyful life ahead, each departed to brood over the real tests awaiting, the exams that will draw the final line and he would be out of Pune…

No idea yet, where he will be placed next, however before the rain falls, he will be back home to savour the joy of first drops of torrential kerala monsoon. And in all the probability his blogging thus comes to an end here-- sort of lost interest... Though he will be in touch with some of you via e-mail, the others will be remembered for all the love and care you have shared (no e-ids).

Good bye and thank you very much one n all.... It s been a pleasant journey here, another sweet chronicle in the annals of his life story….the story goes on…..and might not stop before the rain falls….

Every February, across the country, candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. But who is this mysterious saint and why do we celebrate this holiday? The history of Valentine's Day -- and its patron saint -- is shrouded in mystery. But we do know that February has long been a month of romance. St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. So, who was Saint Valentine and how did he become associated with this ancient rite? Today, the Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred.

One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men -- his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.
Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons where they were often beaten and tortured.

According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl -- who may have been his jailor's daughter -- who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an ex-pression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories certainly emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly, romantic figure. It's no surprise that by the Middle Ages, Valentine was one of the most popular saints in England and France

Laying down one's own life is not the wisdom of the world, and would be considered to be stupid. To lat down one’s life is the greatest love, come think about it…Richard Bach would say, if you love something set it free, if it comes back…and you would say thank you Mr Bach…

Life is the most precious gift, giving and sharing this great gift voluntarily and happily manifest love in its genuine form without any blot of selfishness. Giving unconditionally calls for a metanoia, a transformation of mind, from the mundane priorities to that otherwise pre-occupies human mind. Giving entails selflessness, generosity, other-centeredness, openness, compassion. Laying down one's own life therefore explains and expresses the magnitude of magnanimity and selfless love one has for other other.

What is it that makes love? What is it that fails to make it love? It is love relationships that give meaning to life or vice-versa. Or is it the absence of the same that makes life meaningless?

With radio mirchi brewing by his side that with a tender touch wipes out all tension and worry and paints a smile (well, at least that’s what it tried to do drr guess..) with its melodies, it s heaven sprinkling down, but with the loads of books that keep him pinned down, and a bottle of water, & some kind of fruits to binge on – no chips for the time being as he is still in the recovery mode – on his study table, it would look as if his watch and time-piece are in an indefinite strike...baang bang..

And when the stuff he is reading is so incomprehensibly intriguing, xcrutiating, you get lost in it (uuff if only lost forever), oblivious of the time elapsing and the bottles being emptied…also from the branis whatever little is left....after all what relevance it is to have food or study these rubbish or even make a move, when you are elevated to a place much high – well on the chair of course – from which you get glimpse of what you otherwise see in dreams (Tare Zamin par??)!!

The amazing potential inherent in human imagination as a result of reading is unexplainable. While a movie – more so if it s a movie like the strangely hit Om Shanty Om – confines you to its strict frame works, a book breaks the shackles and let you sore high to great heights – got to be a little careful if you are a dusk or sth. Such joy, such excitement, such freedom is shut close to those who are blind to the beauty of reading….

Then why on earth doesn’t he study? Screw him right away……

A happy marriage is heaven on earth, says the poet, a paradise that even the gods yearn to enter. However, this sacred, intimate, loving union of man and woman that we call marriage just doesn’t happen out of the blues. It has to be a constant process of growing in love and accepting each other in the day to day life situations. The marital bond of spouses remain intact and keep growing deeper in love when each one re-lives her/his ‘I came, I saw, I loved’ experience of the past.

Awing to human shortcomings, each one of us fails to live up to the expectations of the other at one point or other – not to forget the high expectations always one has of the other and inhibition, suspicion and selfishness. But remember, none of us is perfect and let not your expectation of the other skyrocket day by day.

Even the best of marriages and sweetest of the couples occasionally need to call on reserves of love, commitment and patience. The other becomes hell when you are hurt, angry and frustrated over some issue. Mull it over a second time before calling it shot and say those destructing words, ‘I hate you’. Such attitudes can always take away the magic of marital relationship.

Ann was having a conversation the other day with a friend. At some point Ann told her, "I love Ben more now than the day I married him." How many of you husbands get to hear such remarks from your wives? If you don’t hear as often as you would like, it is then time to wonder what is going on. when the communication fails and is not in the way it uesd to be, be sure, the red lights are on alrerady.

To understand the other without any presumptions, to listen to without judging, to be available wholly do not look all rosy for everyone always, but thats how it works!! whether you like it or not!! and finally
